TILEFISH (Lopholatilus
Chamaeleonticeps)
Other names: Golden Tile, Blanquillo
A colorful fish with a firm, pinkish white meat, our Tilefish are caught in
very deep water off the Atlantic Coast by specialized longline
vessels. Tilefish are harvested year round and are landed fresh,
gutted, with heads on.
Sizes ranges from approximately 1 kg/pc to over 30 kg/pc. The average
catch consists mainly of the 2-3 kg. size tiles.
Tilefish is an excellent table fish with a mild flavor.
In the United States, Golden Tilefish is a delicacy and is sold almost
exclusively in New York City. It can be found on the menus of fine
restaurants in New York and Boston. In Japan, it is commonly used for
Sashimi.
