Atlantic Mackerel (Scomber Scombrus)

OTHER NAMES: Boston Mackerel

Atlantic Mackerel, a pelagic fish, is harvested by our vessels in relatively deep waters during the winter months.   The fat concentration can be in excess of 20 % at the beginning of the season.  All our mackerel is whole, round, frozen at sea in a swim packed block.

The mackerel are all hand laid, and the boxes average around 22 pounds (10 kg).

Average size of the fish is around one to one and one half pounds (400 to 500 gr). However, mackerel can vary from 250 to 900 grams.  The fish are generally packed according to size.
