 Loligo Pealei (Boston Squid)  

Other names: Long-finned squid, or Winter squid

Loligo Pealei is renowned throughout Europe and North America for its superior quality and taste.  Our squid is frozen at sea within hours of being caught in the cold waters of the Northwest Atlantic continental slope . This process allows for greater shelf life when the squid is thawed by the consumer.  All our squid is packed in whole, round form and is graded according to tube length.  We currently pack the following five sizes:
                 U/12 cm  (U/4.5")
                12-16 cm  (4.5 - 6")
                16-20 cm  (6 - 8")
                20-25 cm  (8 -10")
                  25+ cm  (10+")
 
 

Each case averages 24 pounds(11kg). A cardboard divider splits the package into two pieces of roughly 12 pounds (5.5 kg.)each. You can order one specific size, or customize an order by combining various sizes (depending on availability).

Other names: Short-finned squid

Illex is a fast growing squid caught in the deep waters of the Northwestern Atlantic Ocean.  Our Illex squid is landed from late May throughout the fall and is packaged in roughly 27 pound (12kg.) boxes. The blocks are hand laid, with a plastic sheet  applied to the top of the block to protect it from freezer burn.

The size of the squid varies greatly from the beginning to the end of the season. May production is typically 50 grams each in weight with tube lengths of 14-16 cm.  By late September sizes have increased to averages of 350 grams and 20 cm.  As with Loligo, the squid is packed in whole, round form.
